Fire Department Lets A Residential House Burn b/c They Didn't Buy a "Fire Contract" - October 5, 2010, 09:53 AM

What? I thought property taxes go towards payment for/of emergency services.
What kind of fuckery is this? I'd burn down the fire department the next day if they came up and just stood there looking at me in mockery.

I hope the mayor and every firefighter involved gets sacked.

Those homeowners are more generous than I would be, saying it's not the firefighters fault, they were just following orders, etc.

I would disobey any such order, and anyone who wouldn't is a shitbird.

"I thought they'd come and put it out, even if you hadn't paid your $75"
- Guy who's shit burned down

It costs $75 of "taxes" in that county. That's what it's there for. He should have paid his shit.

I'm sure he pays property taxes, etc, that go to fund public services as well.

To let someone's house burn for a 75 dollar charge is absurd.

Are you serious?

So by that same token, if someone breaks into your house, and you're delinquent on your taxes, they should be able to just not respond as you're killed?

Fuck off, for real.

It's a service fee for that county. The $75 annual fee covers EVERY fire the county puts out, it's not just like an insurance policy. The house didn't burn because of a petty $75, the house burned because the person did not pay the county fee for fire services.

The last 15 seconds of that video are good too. There was a clear warning in 2008 when it happened, and the county had a meeting to discuss the policy. But the policy obviously remained

SO, again, by your logic.

If I don't pay my property taxes, and someone breaks into my house and shoots me, and rapes my wife,

The police can just not respond, not investigate, etc... because I didn't "Pay the fee"

By your logic, that's fine, or am I misinterpreting you?

And I will admit, it is a very cruel way to demonstrate the necessity for county residents to pay the fee, but refusal to pay is refusal for service.

In all honesty, they could have put the fire out after a while, a severe delay in service would have proven the point well enough

Well public firefighters are socialist. I'm glad this family didn't give in to the commie pinkos. They'd rather their house burn down than some commie pinko county paid firefighter save it for conversion into a stalinistic commune.
