Furniture Recommendations - September 25, 2011, 04:51 PM

So we are doing some work around the condo and looking to pick up some new furniture. Does any have a furniture store they would recommend? Looking for some quality pieces, but not outrageously priced. Don't want particle board crap, but also dont want to spend $1200 on a single piece. We are looking for an entertainment stand, a couple of bookcases/shelving units, and maybe a longer dresser-type cabinet. All for the main living area.

Ikea kicks ass. Cheap and the stuff I've had from them is quality. But yes, mostly particle board.

Best dollar for value, I usually find at Cort. I can walk out of there with an entire living room center for <$2,000. It's not Ethan Allen level but definitely passable.

Shelving units, bookcases and entertainment centers, I'd probably go to Ikea. Their upper end collections are solid wood/wood laminates.

I've found some things at Marlo and Havertys furniture from time to time.

I found great deals at Marlo Furniture.

Also check out the Cort Furniture warehouses, its basically rented furniture that is being sold, most of the furniture was rented for Staging of homes for sale or Corporate Apartments.

Just bought a nice wood dresser w/mirror, bed frame headboard+ foot-board, 2 night stands that were a few months old and pristine from craigslist for $400 (Marlo list around $1500 as the sale price) took me a week to weed it out and work a deal.

If you see a old post with nice furniture out of your range odds are they will sell for your price range if it needs to go.

I was lucky some college girl who had her lease up in a few days after the sale and a move back to California that weekend she was stoked to not eat the cost on the furniture.... score for me!

very true, but some times you have to be careful of buying furniture like that due to bedbugs and other things

Don't forget that we're very close to the NC border where they have many furniture factories. You could go pick up top quality furniture with a minor scratch that they couldn't send to the stores. But buy it for a huge discount direct from factory. I've known people that have done that but I never have so couldn't give you specifics.
