Talking Galaxy S4/S5 Chinese knock off. What do you think? - February 24, 2015, 12:47 PM

So I ordered a smart watch???? thing for $26. I mainly wanted it just for Myrtle Beach Bike week so i can hear and check the whole at stop lights without pulling my phone out.

But then I saw the Galaxy S4 or S5 knock off. $46
I was thinking of getting this for my mom. She is still on a plan I got for her and my dad back in 1994 lol. its a $10 a month 40cent a minute plan.
Basic clam shell phone early 2000s style.

Since her sister and other members at her church all have smart phones she wants one. I tried to get her up to date by leaving her my tablet for 6 weeks. She did not get it. I told her (70yo) that I do not want to get her on a new digital plan with 2 year agreement going from about $15 month to $90 a month if she is not going to use the item...

Wth that said.

If i have my own phone that will help cut down on in contract time, but not on verizon data plans.

My question to you...how do this Chinese knock off sound to you?
Have you heard anything?

will these spects work on Verizon networks?

They work.

Thats about it. The OS is usually pretty shitty. And lags. Screen isnt as crisp. Touchscreen isnt responsive. But still they work.

Don't do it.

If you want to go with a Chinese, low cost premium phone (or semi-clone), there are only two phones I trust right now.

On second thought, I just re-read and see that you're on Verizon.
The long and short of it is NO, Von, I don't think any of these knock off phones will work for you.

Almost all the knock-off phones are based on a radio standard called GSM, which is what 98% of the world uses.

Verizon is one of the few network providers in the world that use CDMA.
Most knock-off companies stay away from CDMA because the market for phones that use CDMA is a sliver of GSM network users, and CDMA also requires a patent/royalty license. Qualcomm owns the rights to the technology.
