Gamers Unite: Child's Play Charity - December 4, 2007, 08:33 AM

This is the one charity I always donate to every year. Gamers around the world buy toys and games for kids in hospitals. For the past couple years, Children's National Hospital in D.C. has been on the list and I've bought from their wishlist on Amazon every year since.

That's all you have to do. Items are shipped directly to the hospital.

You can donate money, but toys and games are much cooler. And nothing used is allowed for hospital reasons.

I know there are a lot of gamers here and for just a few bucks you can send kids some crayons. Or 10 packs of crayons. If you'd rather send them a DS, I'm sure your new race boots could wait a few weeks instead.

The charity is completely legit. The toys are managed by the hospital by a "wellness" staff (so employees don't steal them).

Hopefully this year they'll break $1,000,000 in donations.

" Since 2003, over 100,000 gamers worldwide have banded together through Child’s Play, a community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry. Over two million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world have been collected since our inception.

This year, we have continued expanding across the country and the globe. With over 45 partner hospitals and more arriving every month, you can be sure to find one from the map above that needs your help! You can choose to purchase requested items from their online retailer wish lists, or make a cash donation that helps out Child’s Play hospitals everywhere. Any items purchased through Amazon will be shipped directly to your hospital of choice, so please be sure to select their shipping address rather than your own.

When gamers give back, it makes a difference!"
