Gaming Industry Contacts? - September 1, 2009, 03:20 PM

So a colleague of mine is throwing caution to the wind and making a rather dramatic career change even in this turbulent economic environment. I actually admire him, for taking the reigns and chasing his dream.

From what he has told me, he is hoping to translate his current project management skill set into the gaming industry as an assistant/associate producer. If I recall correctly, there is someone on the board that works in this field and I was wondering if he/she (or anyone else for that matter) may have any contacts I could pass along to him. Or if you could offer your time to share any advice you may have for him as he pursues his goal.

Thanks!

Here's a piece of advice:

Watch Grandma's Boy, it should give him all the insight that he needs in the industry

I lived with a guy who now works for Activision and worked as a programmer on Call of Duty 2 Modern Warfare. I can ask him if he'd mind if I shared his email with you....

I spent 5 years working for Activision, and they are a good company to work for, hard part is getting in the door - they like to hire from within. Basically every developer/producer they have come out of the "game tester" pool which is very large and competitive. Not sure how the other publishers hire, just wanted to share that info. If your buddy can take the long hours and crap pay for testing games while he gets into the industry, then its is worth it.

Same as above, will hit up some of my friends that are still there and see what the hiring status is.
