Garmin issues recall due to battery - September 20, 2010, 09:03 AM

Just an FYI.

Check your Garmin against the site and see if yours is recalled.

We have recently learned that Garmin, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is voluntarily recalling certain Nuvi Portable Automotive GPS Products. Our records indicate that you have purchased one of the GPS Products listed in this recall through the Amazon.com website.

The recall involves:
• nüvi 200W, 250W, & 260W
• nüvi 7xx (where xx is a two-digit number)

These portable automotive GPS products were sold for use as aftermarket equipment and were also sold and installed as original equipment in certain passenger vehicles. These units contain Third-Party Lithium-Ion batteries manufactured in a certain date range. In rare circumstances the batteries contained in the affected GPS units can overheat.

Owners may contact Garmin’S nuvi Battery Recall Information Line at 1-866-957-1981. Determine your nuvi model number by looking at the label on the back or bottom of your nuvi. You must provide this and other information to determine whether your nuvi is affected by this recall. To easily and quickly determine whether your nuvi is affected, go to www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall

You may also find additional details about the recall in the NHTSA bulletin by searching for Garmin on the following site:
ODI - Office of Defects Investigation

If you purchased this item as a gift for someone, please notify the recipient immediately and provide them with the information in the NHTSA bulletin concerning these safety issues.

We regret the inconvenience this recall has caused you but trust you will understand that the safety of our customers is our highest priority.

Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
