Geek out with this Screen Saver - Best ever! - March 30, 2009, 11:05 PM

Ok, I don't usually like screen savers but I had to share this one that I stumbled on.

Quote:
Electric Sheep is a distributed computing project for animating and evolving fractal flames, which are in turn distributed to the networked computers, which display them as a screensaver on the individual node computers of the distributed network. The process is transparent to the casual user, who can simply install the software as a screensaver. Alternatively, the user may become more involved with the project, manually creating sheep (video files of animated fractal flames) for upload to the server.
Download located at http://www.electricsheep.org (not working as of this post, but i just downloaded it a few days ago from the site, if you really want it i'm sure googling it would come up with some sites to download from)

Write up here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Sheep

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e7lPYTIaRQ (Looks much better on 1080p 47".. but don't take my word for it)

playstation has something similar, but instead of pictures they are computing proteins or something similar. You can actually also install that one to your computer.

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ - What is SETI@home?
SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.

I had SETI running on my Dell way back in the college days. My cpu used to be on all day so I figured it would help out. Can't believe that shit is still going on. Have they found any aliens yet?
