i thought i would tell you that today is the last day (in many states,
not all, you'll have to check) to register to vote. you may or may not
already know this. i am not telling you this because i want to be your
social studies teacher and give you a lecture about your civic duties.

i am telling you this because young and cynical people (which, let's
face it, we mostly are) don't tend to vote. at all. i do, and i have
since i turned 18. i'm not going to talk to a large audience about my
political views, but suffice it to say that i think that supporting
your own personal views through actual political action is the easiest
way to change the future of your government and your country.

so register to vote if you haven't already. if your excuse is "but i
don't know anything about the candidates", go register and take the
next month to find out. it's not hard. try, oh, looking at the
internet. if your excuse is "both candidates are the same", the answer
is "there are more than two candidates, and the democrats and
republicans are very obviously different, if you take the time to learn
anything about them."

think about it. if you're cynical about the government, the two-party
system, the war, the economy, or anything... doesn't that mean you

ahem. sorry. man i just get mad sometimes about people who complain,
but don't do anything. you don't have to stand on the corner holding
"NO BLOOD FOR OIL" signs or slather your car in bumper stickers. you
don't have to call in to a talk radio show. you just have to sign up
and in a month, you walk over to the church or school near your house,
punch holes in a little card, and come home.

for e-z internet voter registration go here:
http://www.declareyourself.com/ but be aware you have to actually
physically sign the forms and mail them in today (in most states,
california's deadline is not until the 18th, but several states'
deadlines are today.)
