It's a wonder why people still need reminders . . . then again, maybe I should have thought twice before sending my bank account info to a Nigerian princess who offered to advance me $2 million . . .

Just as a followup.:

Don't ever install something that you got from an email attachment or email link.
A popular phishing attack is to spoof as a tech support/sys admin and have the email recipient install something like a root kit onto the computer.

Many tech support departments will explicitly state that they will never ask you to install something via email. (Instead, they do it themselves with root access.)

Valuable information is not just bank accounts, ssn's, etc., but proprietary company and government information. In other words, espionage. That's why researchers are targeted at their work email addresses. They make their email addresses public through journal articles.

If you have doubts, call your sys admin and ask. This is called "spear phishing".

You always know these schemes right off the bat by the broken English, awkward authoritarian phrasing, and overuse of punctuation (!!!!)

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

Use Firefox. Install Web of Trust and Adblocker Plus plugins (both free). Install/Use Malwarebytes and Spybot. Eset wouldn't hurt either but it cost $$$...
