Going camping need go camp sites - October 5, 2011, 09:31 AM

So I am planning on going camping this weekend with some people. I personally like real camping but I think I am the only one in this crew to feel that way. Soooo I am trying to find good campgrounds that have access to real bathrooms with showers. It would be nice if you aren't stacked right on top of other campsites cause there will be some partying going on and don't want to disrupt people. Would like to be around some hiking trails and some scenery. If there is a little town not to far that would be cool too. I am currently looking within 2 hours of NOVA. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I forgot about the cove. Haven't been there forever. I wonder if my CRF 150 can handle their trails.

point look out md has pet friendly sites with full hook ups and bathrooms. They even have a dog beach.

Went mid summer and did some crabbing. Cooked them suckers up for dinner with beer and old bay it was good.

I don't but some of the people I am going with will not go any place that doesn't have them.

I went camping w/ my brother and his kids at Cunningham Falls in Frederick Co, MD. Because of all the MTB'ing I've done in the watershed I knew where to take the kids on day hikes. I promised them we'd see a pond full of newts, a beaver lodge, and if we got lucky we'd find rattlesnakes or copperheads at a "special undisclosed location". No rattlesnakes, but there were 3 copperheads. Success! These suburban kids had never laid eyes on a snake before and I felt lucky to show them that snakes are not pure evil. Just living creatures eking out an existence on this big blue marble.

Two out to the west of you:

Black Water Falls State park has camp sites, cabins, a lodge, and bath/shower facilities. Very pretty area for wandering around.

Trout Pond Recreation area has camp sites and bath/shower facilities. Not likely to want to go swimming at this time of year unless you got a little polar bear in you but there are trails and such that one can hike on nearby.

Once saw a family roll up to a "real campground." They spent 15 min making a hole in the ground, threw a plywood box with a big hole in it on top, and put a toilet seat on it. And threw some curtains up around it. Fucking brilliant

I have always wanted to check out Black Water Falls. I always ride past it.
