A Good Day to Die Hard: Die Hard 5 - February 22, 2012, 05:40 PM

Deadline is reporting that Spartacus' Jai Courtney has landed the role of John McClane's son in A Good Day To Die Hard. The fifth movie in the franchise will be directed by John Moore (Max Payne), and is expected to be released February 14, 2013.

Jai landing the part is viewed as quite the surprise, as many actors were in contention, but no one had Courtney on their short lists. It is believed the Chris Hemsworth's brother, Liam (The Hunger Games) was the runner-up.

Jai Courtney is best known for playing Varro in cable television show, Spartacus: Blood and Sand. He also landed a role in Tom Cruise's new film, One Shot, and will be in Aaron Eckhart's I, Frankenstein, which begins filming in Australia in a few days.

A Good Day to Die Hard puts McClane on an international stage, truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow, and introduces his estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney). An apple that has not fallen far from the tree, Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy. This positions Courtney to continue in future installments of the franchise with Willis, who last reprised his franchise character in 2007.

I worked a few days on the last one. We had a Bruce Willis photo double, so I never saw the actual guy. The double did look just like him.

File under: Things Not Needed Or Asked For.

They should have stopped at 3.
3 was a great close out to the character.

The only thing good in 4 was the fight scene with the 'gerbil' Parlour guy in the cooling tower.

its funny how some stars have doubles on contract, and these guys end up making quite a nice living simply because they look like their famous counterpart.
