Good Massage Places? - September 28, 2011, 10:02 PM

So after tweaking my neck pretty good yesterday, my physical therapist told me that I should look into getting a massage as my muscles are a lot tighter than they should be for someone my age. She suggested a deep tissue massage which would loosen things up and relax my muscles.

Now I know massages ain't cheap, so I need some recommendations on reasonably priced massages. I'm in Rockville, but willing to travel to NoVA or DC for the right place/price.

With or without happy ending?

There used to be a good place in College Park. Guy worked with UMD's Basketball and Football programs. I used him to sort me out after someone didn't call out a hard pick being set-up for me and I literally whiplashed myself.

I'll see if I still have the info on my old contact list.

Been a lot of massage specials on Groupon and Living Social lately. Actually I think there's a massage deal to be had through both sites right now.

Deep tissue is completely different from your standard $60/hr massage. The therapist has gone through a hell of a lot more of real medical training and not just a week long course, and their prices reflect that. However most insurance will cover deep tissue with a referral, or prescription.

My wife use to use a woman in Arlington, I can only remember her first name right now, Robbin, Ill try and get some more info.

Exactly. Deep Tissue is a very intensive massage. It's not about hard pressure but it will not be comfortable and relaxing, and if the therapist has not been trained properly they can do some real damage to nerves, blood vessels, etc.

CGC - My guy is no longer around. Took a full time position with the Nets. Sorry.

You might also consider a chiropractor Marc. I use to go to the one in greenbelt plaza off 355 and is covered by insurance.
I have tweaked my neck like that many times and they have always helped me.

I see a chiro every now and then for my neck. The muscles get very stiff, but in actuallity they are so tight because they are working extra hard at trying to pull my spin straight. Once the chiro lines er up... they can relax. I go every few months. I have whip lash issues from a number of car/motorcycle/mountain bike crashes. Meh... getting old.

You can get cheap massage by students at the massages schools in Frederick and Linthicum (Glen burnie area). They're like $25 and they're being trained....might be good for "touchups" for your neck bro
