GoPro HD Hero2 / WiFi BacPac coming soon - October 24, 2011, 08:41 AM

GoPro has released the HD Hero2, dropping the price of the original HD Hero. Specs are almost the same, except you have 120fps at WVGA resolutions. The interface is supposed to be a little better as well. The othe goodie they are going to release Winter 2012 is the Wifi BacPac which will allow you to control up to 50 GoPro HD (Hero or Hero2) from a central app. This will allow live streaming and camera adjustments! all that's left is to make it bullet style and give people a way to know if it's off/on without having to take it off their heads.

Looks like some good features though

Yeah, that is my complaint too. I have the contourHD though, it has LED's for on/off/rec but when your riding 1.) too hard to see in the sun 2.) for my rear facing cam I don't have time to turn around to check it
need a wireless interface I can velcro to the dash.

Yawn on the new specs of the HdHero2. Sounds like the iPhone 4S of the sportcam industry.

The WiFi backpack sounds neat though. Wonder if you can use GoPros as security cams in your house now.

It's the only one I've seen so far with 120fps?

Yeah, almost didn't post about the Hero2, but figured with the lions around here I'd be ripped for not mentioning it.

Yeah that and the new controls seemed to me the only changes... but the best "change" will be the price drop for the original HD Hero

Is 120fps at 800x480 really a game changer?

Now at HD, sure, but not that low res.

It sounds like you can change the angle on the fly from wide to narrow, etc. That sounds useful.

No I'm happy with 60

I'm still on the fence between selling my contour and getting the XD. The ease of use for both of those is a killer over the gopro. At least for me it is, because I use mine in the snow. I'm sick of freezing my hands off in order to fuck with my camera.

120fps/800x480 isnt what i'd call a game changer, but its a great option to have. I'd guess out of my ass that most of the videos shot on a GoPro end up at a 480 resolution on YouTube anyways.

I'll take Contour HD which shoots 720p/60fps for only $130 from Amazon.

I think we all want the coolness factor of Go Pro, but nobody uses 1080/30 mode. Everyone uses the 720/60 mode, which is why I justified the idea of buying Contour HD. Only downfall to Contour HD is that it is not waterproof, but thats no biggie to me. Also, Contour records .mov files, which most editing softwares wont accept, but I have found a way to work around it by converting the .mov files to .avi format and then I can play with the videos on my imovie.
