GoPro Hero4 Revealed - September 26, 2014, 10:09 AM

So this has been leaking the last few days but it looks like we finally got all of the details on the new Gopro:

GoPro HERO4 Revealed! 4K Video at 30FPS and the First Built-In Touch Display

The highlights of the new Black are:
4K at 30fps
2.7K at 50fps
1440p at 80fps
1080p at 120fps
960p at 120fps
720p at 120fps

"We haven’t heard anything in terms of pricing and availability, but our source tells us that the official announcement date for the GoPro HERO4 cameras will most likely be October 8th, 2014"

Waiting to see the price point, but I fear GoPro is beginning to wander outside their long successful formula of LOW PRICE + strong features + robust design.

What made them a $70/share stock was their product took more than acceptable video and pictures at a throwaway device price. If you broke it, smashed it, lost it, you didn't really wince.

GoPro's used to come in around $100-150. Then it was $200-250. Now it's $300. How much is a GP4 Black going to run? $400-$500?

I think the new Polaroid Cube that Dutch posted yesterday, with its $100 retail price, could end up capturing and backfilling much of that low-tier casual user market who "only" needs 1080P video.

GoPro didn't go public til this summer. I believe late June early July with an IPO of 24 per share and currently at 82 a share. That's a 350% increase in only 2 months. The cheap side only got them started back in the early 2000s. It's versatility and strong sales from being know around the world is what put them up. Look at Red Bull vs. Monster. Red runs an average of $2.5 an 8 Oz can while you can get a 16oz Monster for the same price, it's a following. Will Polaroid take some of the sales? Sure, but it will only keep GoPro from entering that $400 range.

I hated gopro for so long, but after buying the hero 3+ black, I'm sold. The video is insane and the features like using my cell phone to adjust everything are unbeatable. I've taken that shit all over europe

GoPro's New Cameras Sport Better 4K Features, Low-Light Shooting | WIRED

GoPro, Go Cheaper
The newest “cheap” camera from the company is simply called the Hero. It maxes out at 1080p resolution at 30fps, and if you want to shoot in 60fps, you can only do so at 720p resolution. Also, it only shoots 5-megapixel stills. However, it’s cheap—only $130.
Shit, I'm buying this the minute it comes out. I have so much "mount envy" LOL

My contours are nice, but retrofitted them all to work with GoPro mounts.

this seems like a pretty solid option for regular commuting to work every day.

Do people have 4k TV's yet? I know they've come down a lot, but I haven't seen much content for them

typically, no. Especially at a size where that resolution actually matters.

Yup, don't think many are buying them, as you stated, not really any 4k content yet. But recording in 4k can be good for future use, or even if you want to crop video etc... More info is USUALLY better, all depends on the intended use though.

I think for most people, it'll be wasted. I mean editing is the big hurdle to using them now anyways and I imagine that 90% of video never shows up anywhere because people don't want to mess with it. Add higher resolution, which equates to more demanding requirements for the machine doing the editing, and I doubt many people will get to the point of cropping anything.

120fps @1080 is pretty sweet though and I imagine Red Bull and the like will make some sweet videos with them.

Totally agree, that is why I said usually and depending on use case. Hell I still typically capture in 720p just because most people are watching on phones/crappy laptops etc. So they'll never get the 1080p, plus much faster to edit/render. And more min/MB.
