Gov't Shutdown, whos been hit? - October 1, 2013, 02:54 PM

So who has been affected?

Whos home now?

Who will be in a week?

Neighbor works at Quantico, got hit with furloughs earlier this summer, losing a day every other week, now the shutdown has him home full time, all just in time for his first to be born (expected Friday). He has really been getting the shaft.

The division of my agency in which I work is not funded by appropriated funds so we wont be affected unless it lasts several months.

Nope, not hit. Whole floor is empty though, except for 7 of us. They were told to leave at like 1:30p. In a very strange move though they reduced "facility services" and got rid of one of the receptionists...wtf??? I work for a contractor, so I don't see what one has to do with the other one.

My office is funded by user fees so I'm still working. I've got a brother and some friends who are out though. I was out during the last shutdown (95 or 96) but was eventually paid later. It is scary not knowing though. What a waste...

Only if they're stupid. The potential is there every year. It sure feels like having an actual budget in the first half of the fiscal year has become unusual.

C & O bike path was closed. Bathrooms were closed on the Mall. Had to pee in a bush. Ride cut short. I was hit hard man!

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

My fathers company had to send home about 1/4 of all employees. His company is a very large company so a huge # large number of people were sent home. Fortunately he isn't included in the people being sent home.

My wife's mother is being sent home which sucks...but she's kind of a huge bitch.

My wife's work had to send home some employees but she is considered essential so isn't being sent home.

My job will never be effected by any of this.
