Gym recommendations in Ashburn? - February 23, 2011, 07:52 AM

I'm coming up on the end of my contract with sport and health, and will not be renewing with them. I'm looking for gym recommendations in the area. Here's some criteria:

- Childcare available
- Said childcare doesn't include letting children of 10 years old clog up the machines and workout areas
- cycle classes in the evenings
- bodypump or similar group weightlifting in the evenings
- zumba or some other dance-oriented classes for the wifey, also in evenings. Preferably on the same day/time as the cycle classes. (I do spin, she does these)
- doesn't oversell memberships (Sport and health in Brambleton is horrendously oversold)
- Clientele who is there to workout, not fucking socialize.

The big problem i have with my current gym, other than the overcrowding, is the huge amount of children in there. I'd prefer a gym that restricts children under the age of 16 or so from using the gym.

Don't much care about trainers, etc. Childcare should be included in the membership if possible.

I currently pay through the nose, so i don't anticipate dues will be an issue.

There's a new Gold's getting ready to open at the corner of Ashburn Village & Waxpool. Looks like it's going to be huge. I've been debating another gym membership for a long time.

I had a membership to Bally's but let that shit go when they closed the one in Tysons. It was paid off, too...I was paying only $5/month.

Keep me posted on what you find.

Check out Fitness First, they offer just about everything you're looking for.

I've been a member for about 4-5 years.

The golds isn't completely done yet, but it looks to be a big facility. Being that it's under construction, they probably have specials. I'll report back on what I learn from them.

The LA fitness schedule of classes is... doable. Not optimal though. We'll see.

Keep the recommendations coming, folks!

I have used fitness first for the last 8 years on and off in different locations and they are always pretty solid with pretty decent prices.

in my opinion,

LA Fitness has the best prices. Especially when factoring in the Kids Club. I think I paid about $35/mo for membership plus Kids Club.

Second best is Golds. Their Kids Club hours are a little better than LA Fitness but they usually cost a little more. With the brand new one opening I believe you can get in at $20/mo to start plus however much kidsclub costs. They have their classes listed online so you can check out their times. I know the Kids Club at my Golds is $20/month or $3 per visit.

A bigger factor is distance. You don't want to drive 20 min each way to the gym. Trust me I know because that is how far my Golds is from my house. 40 minutes roundtrip really adds up, especially when you have kids.

Most gyms will give you a free week pass to check it out. Go around and check out each one and see which one fits you best.

There is a Mohawk Ryder chick who is now selling memberships at Golds out there in Ashburn. You can holla at JDubbz for her info, maybe she can hook you up.
