On the large part the transfer rates are hardware limited anyway (ie - Your Sony video camera probably operates on USB2, and it's faster than firewire 400, and chances are the cables aren't the reason for slow data rates)

In other words 480mbps is as fast as 98% here would use.

Data rate transmission on different specifications - http://www.lyberty.com/tech/terms/usb.html

The link above talks about *theoretical* speeds.

In practice, the theoretical potential of USB 2.0 is NOT used in any current devices. This is the reason why on paper USB 2.0 is faster, but in reality Firewire is either much faster or a little faster/tied depending on what you are doing.

God... if we've had enough self-masturbatory techie bullshit about it... $97... 500gigs... very good deal. It's fast enough to move large files just fine... be patient or get an iced tea.

Great deal but not a big fan of WD...their external drives known for having as many issues as their internals?

So in other words, this would be ideal for my Itunes library?
