This post is more for the Dad's on the board... I lost my father 4 years ago to poor health. Every holiday and special moment I find myself missing him. I've found that my relationship with my dad was taken for granted. The time you spend with your kids is always remembered.

So to close this up.. I hope that all the kids out there make their dad's feel special this weekend.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!

Now for those of you that aren't fathers... I hope you can at least spend some time with yours. Now get off the computer and get to it

Happy Father's Day, Dad. You were the best, and you inspire me every single day.

I lost mine in 1982 when he was struck down by cancer at only 36 years old. He battled melanoma that he was diagnosed with when he was only 20. He never let it stop him from living to the fullest with what he had. He grew-up a DC native with a knack for building motors and drag-racing, and he won about a dozen trophies for races and custom bike shows.

He was successful in his own business by the age of 30, with three kids whom he could not have loved more. Though I've out-lived him, he had a very full life. It's easier for me to pretend he's still here, but I often miss him when I ride. I have fond memories of riding on the back of his Sportster as a kid while he practiced sliding it around in a grassy field like a dirt-tracker in an attempt to scare me. It worked.

I race in part to honor him. I've never started a race without thinking of him. I know he would love to see me racing now. Here's a photo of his '62 custom Triumph, one of a few bikes that he tore down and rebuilt from the ground up. It won 'best-in-show' at the Baltimore Bike Show, and 'best-in-class' for same in DC... small successes compared to the family he made with Mom's help.

Thanks for sharing JV.
As for me and my Dad, we don't see eye to eye too often, but deep down I know that he had done alot for my Mom, Sis' and I. Each day goes by, I try to improve our relationship.

Thanks. My dad used to say, "I don't call you son 'cause you shine... I call you son 'cause you're mine." Your name made me think of that. Did your father name you?

I agree but we all know they will be what they want to be. We just need to guide them in the right direction. My 3 wants to go ride this weekend so it will be a wonderful dad's day.

(to me it's dads day. Reason is any damn deadbeat can father a child but it takes a dad to hang in for the long haul.)
