Happy Veterans Day! - November 10, 2006, 06:34 AM

This weekend we honor the Men & Woman in the military that have served this country with honor, pride, courage, & dignity.

If you appreciate your freedom, I hope you will take a second out this weekend to Thank a veteran!

Even if you don't agree with the war in Iraq or how it is being waged, I urge you to continue supporting our troops. Let them know it!

FOREVER #47 "Walking In The Echo...."
Are you a 'Secret Believer"? Do you Conceal your faith from your family, friends and co-workers? Isn't it about time to step out of hiding and let others know whom you follow?

Count me in. I'm celebrating Veteran's Day with a sick day, but hopefully our nation's Veterans are in good health! I appreciate all they've done for us.

Usually I post something humorous, or stupid, or I make a joke at someone's expense...Not in this post:

Like most people my age (late 20s) both of my grandparents served in WW2. My mom's father was in the Navy and my dad's father was in the Coast Guard. Neither of them talk about the war very much, and I don't generally press the issue. My dad spent 24 years in the Coast Guard and made numerous drug busts protecting our nation in his way.

I had the chance in high school to apply to the Naval Academy. I wanted to go so bad and fly jets. That was my one dream. I wanted to follow my dad into military service because I knew there was honor in that. But somewhere along the way....I chickened out. I chose instead to go to school in Daytona Beach, FL, thinking "Hey, I could always go back and do OCS and all that."

Then came 9/11. My dreams of becoming an airline pilot right out of college evaporated in the thick grey smoke emanating from those towers. At that point, I had my 2nd opportunity to join the military. After graduating that next spring, I was at a crossroads. Do I now try and get into Navy OCS? Do I go into the Coast Guard? What do I do? Again, I choose non-military.

Although I try not to regret things in life, and believe there is a plan out there for me, I do regret from time to time not joining the military. So for all those that have, and fought for this great nation - Much love to you guys. You are the rock that this country was founded on. We lean on you guys and you continue to stand pat for the rest of us. I, for one, will always be greatful that you did not "chicken out" like I did.
