Blu-ray brotha!

It is the better technology with much more capacity than HD.

I'm holding off on the purchase of either until I see which one will win the format wars. I don't want to get stuck with a "Betamax" of the current times. That said, which one has the porn industry adopted? That is how VHS won the previous war.

Exactly what Madali said.
HD is the way to go. It's not as good as BluRay, but it already has a slightly larger selection. -=AND=- just like with BETA, Sony has said that Porn will NEVER be offered on BluRay.

Beta was better than VHS. Sony owned it and did the same thing.
BluRay is better than HDDVD. Sony owns it and is shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm sorry, but the extra couple BILLION dollars a year put out by the porn industry is a huge bonus to HDDVD.

I think HD will win for the exact reason Madali has mentioned. Bluray has all but banned any porn being commercially recorded onto their discs. There's only like 3 or so big blueray "factories" right now, and that have all denied any business from adult movies.

This is almost exactly like the Betamax of the 80's... Beta was technically better technology, but VHS got the porn industry behind it and ended up winning the format wars.

Which leads me to ponder, does anyone really want to see porn in 1080P? Haze filters are used for a reason...

I used to think that HD would win out as well... but Blu-Ray seems to be getting better market saturation.. I'm in the market for one or the other, and just can't decide. Most of the electronics retailers are saying to go Blu-Ray. I dunno...

I'll Choose Blu-Ray cause no one else has. We rent Blu-Ray only because we have a PS3.

I'll probably get blu-ray first thanks to ps3 tempting me as a convergence device, but I do think HD will win out in the "end". By the time we took full advantage of current blu-ray technology we'd be looking to upgrade to HD2 or something. Who knows? Maybe we'll have little IMAX theaters in our houses soon.

I went HD. Bought the HD DVD player for my Xbox 360 from Best Buy - got the first season of Heroes on HD DVD, plus 2 additional HD DVD movies valued up to $34.99 each from Best Buy, AND am getting 5 additional HD DVD movies for free from Microsoft's online offer. Cant beat that deal.

With major studio's backing the different formats this is going to be a long drawn out battle between the two with no one entity being the deciding factor. We'll see a saturation of duel format players before we see a specific format coming out on top.

As for Porn... With it only a keystroke away, who wants to pay for it? Porn backing HD-DVD is not the ringer it was for VHS. People will still want to by Disney movies which are exclusively on Blu Ray.

Blu Ray is currently outselling HD-DVD 2-1. The number of home theaters I've personally installed in the last 90 days has seen Blu Ray players in 90% of them.

FWIW... I have a small collection of Blu Ray movies due to having the PS3. I might be going out to get a HD player today for the hell of it.

Cheers,

At CES last year LG showed a player that was compatible w/ both HD and Blue-Ray. That is my option once prices lower! http://us.lge.com/superblu/ still $699.
