help with mouse - July 20, 2013, 10:55 AM

I know this isn't a computer support forum but googling this hasn't helped so far; hoping someone here can help.

The right click button on my mouse isn't working. 90% of clicks do nothing, maybe 10% show a spinning circle and then nothing. I'm using a MS wireless laser mouse and running windows 8. Fingers crossed somebody has the solution; thanks in advance!

I came in here ready to tell you to go buy some snap traps and place them along the wall with some almonds or walnuts as bait.

Yeah, I don't think those will help with my situation but I'm open to suggestions.

I did manage to get to the mouse settings window and switched the functionality between the buttons; the left button is giving me the normal right-click options, so I'm guessing the problem is under the hood on the mouse.

If you can get it apart you might be able to mess around with the switch and fix the issue but these things are built to be disposable so I wouldn't bet on it...

I would try a different mouse to make sure the problem is the mouse and not software.

If a different mouse works fine, then ... you know it is really the mouse.

Once that's out of the way:

- Go to the manufacturer's site ... and make sure you have the latest driver

- Make sure Windows has all it's patches installed

- Give it a re-boot for good measure

If that doesn't work. I dunno.

Who'd a thought that a Rat could help with a mouse?

Can you take it apart and spray out any dust or dirt?

Nothing I say is to be taken seriously.

Holy cow, Magic Rat is still around? Where you been? I tried opening it up but that went over like a lead balloon. Just got back from Best Buy and am back in business with a new mouse. Thanks to all for suggestions.
