Help needed: whats the best local wedding youve been to? - September 28, 2009, 01:17 PM

Over the years I have seen some great ideas come from some members of this page and was hoping for the same in this situation.

As most of you know, we are planning a wedding and we are looking for a cool alternative to the standard hotel banquet room. We've done a lot of research and found info on the usual suspects, but none of it seems to fit the feel that we're going for, since this will be more of a BBQ catering, good chance of flip cup in the forecast sort of event, than a flowers and doilies kind of day.

Requirements:
-outside venue with a back up plan in case of inclement weather
-fits a minimum of 200 people
-not too expensive
-informal, nothing too hoity-toity
-in or very close to the N. Va area

Can anybody give specific examples of venues where they have attended a wedding and you thought the place was awesome and a lot of fun? Any help would be appreciated!

I went to a costume wedding right outside of Leesburg one time. It was North on route 15 and then turn right on a gravel road. I don't remember whether it was a friend of the family's property or what. There was a great view of the most amazing wooden contemporary house, though.

Anyway, they basically rented a tent and had the party under the tent. When it started raining, they lowered the sides of the tent to keep in the warm and keep out the rain.
Everyone was in costume to ensure that no one dressed up too much and we all got pretty loaded.

we looked into that and the tent rental alone was $1500-2000 for the size we needed. You add onto the tables and chairs and portable bathrooms and you are getting real close to having it at a venues where we wouldnt have to worry about set up and tear down. The tent is our first choice but it isnt looking to good for that anymore.

Thanks Curt!

It was several yeasr ago but I went to a wedding in the recrection and park on Beaula Rd. (sp?). Consider it Vienna.

Place was awesome ... full gardens, insdie fountains and everything and it was pretty cheap to get it for the day. I think it cost my buddy like $1000 give or take. Worth a look at. You'll love it once you see it.

If you're not sure where it is I'll take a ride out there with you Dan.

God Speed Jeff! You'll never be forgotten.

Not really like footloose... there will be no "frustrated dancing!"

My company has their picnics off the GW parkway, Fort Hunt. Large covered pavilion with stage, and double sided fireplace. Two volleyball courts, soccer and baseball fields.

Has restrooms. Not exactly beautiful, but easy to get to, just might have issues with others using the park on a weekend. Police do patrol, but drinking is allowed. Park does close at dark though.

Up side you can swing by and check it out anytime.

Meadowlark = $$$ And a long waitlist, and you have to use their vendors. And I think they had alcohol limits. My sister looked in to them.

Botanical Gardens in DC was a great venue I went to about 3 years ago.
I also went to a wedding a few weeks ago that was held at Oxon Hill Manor which was pretty cool and a very good venue for 200pp. Built on a bit of a bluff overlooking the Potomac.

It's ideal because it's right over the bridge, so it's convenient for people coming from VA, MD, and DC.

But best yet, the National Harbor and Gaylord are a mile away so there's no shortage of hotel rooms, restaurants, & things to do for guest coming into to town.

Oh, and if you need catering let me know. I know the owner of RSVP Catering, and I know Andre Wells.
