HELP PLEASE: Computer Trouble - August 29, 2009, 03:48 PM

A little background info first: I'm not super tech savvy so bear with me. I upgraded the RAM in my computer about 6 months ago, i bumped it up 512MB from 1GB. It worked well for a little while and then my computer started doing awkward things and eventually I got the Blue Screen. I reinstalled my old RAM and all was well for a while except that I kept getting the following error message at start up "your paging file does not exist or your paging file is too small."

So recently my CD drive has not been working. I'll put a CD in the drive and nothing will happen. I'll try and run the CD from the D: drive and still nothing will happen. I just recently got a Blackberry and I wanted to install the software that comes with it. So today I tried to go online and look at some trouble shooting articles and I ended up downloading a driver update for my CD drive from the HP website. The driver did not work. Not only did it not work but while I was trying to find more info on the problem my computer crashed and on startup the explorer.exe executable was not "executing" so basically all my icons/start menu aren't visible. I tried launching it via the task manager but it didn't work. Now normally I would have tried to reinstall the OS at this point in an attempt to solve all of the above problems but my CD drive doesn't work. I'm stuck.

Any advice?

As always all help is greatly appreciated.

For the Paging File, right-click on 'My Computer', left-click on 'Properties', click on the 'Advanced' tab, under 'Performance' click on 'Settings', click on the 'Advanced' tab and then click on 'Virtual Settings' I would select the option to let the system manage your page file....

Boot with last known good configuration did not work. Windows seems to boot normally its just then once its done nothing is on the screen except for my desktop background. Again I can not launch explorer.exe and it does not show up under processes in the task manager. When i try to launch it from the task manager (i.e. file:new task) it says something like "the device does not exist. you don't not have permission to access this device"

When I could check it before a CD drive was showing up under my computer, I would even show what CD was in the drive but if I were to double click on the D: drive nothing would happen.

Reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working at the moment except that under network connections, there is no wireless network icon so I can't connect to the WIFI at my house...any ideas there?

You're probably going to have to go to HP's site and install the drivers for the wireless card and a few others things while you're at it.

Go to your device manager and look for all the items with a yellow ! under Other.
Find the driver for all of these, download and install. It probably isn't just the wireless.
