Help with selecting a laptop... - January 24, 2007, 12:19 PM

Hola gang

I am thinking of purchasing a laptop and for those that do know me, know I have NO knowledge of tech specs and what have you. So basically I could really use some suggestions.

Basically I want one that can handle LOTS of music. Eventually I will be installing music production programs such as Ableton and Fruity Loops. Also, I download an assload of music (shhhhhhhhhh)

So if anyone has any suggestions as far as brand and memory I will love you long time.

Thanky

My cousin can get me a 30% discount on apple products...and she suggested a Mac.

However, how different is a Mac from a PC.

You can create a VM (virtual machine) via paradox (a program that will run shells (Microsoft XP, 2000, 1998, Linux builds, Unix... anything basically).

Macs have less problems running and if you want it for music mac has the market.

You can upgrade stuff too, but if it's refurb what you get is what you get, so if your friend can get you 30% off on mac stuff make one specialized with a large harddrive and upgrade the ram to a minimum of 1 gigabyte.

No prob.

If your friend has the hookup, just build one yourself and get EVERYTHING you want. If you're on a tighter budget, get a refurbished, I did and I'm happy with it.

Definately MacBook if not a MacBook pro.

They rock!!! I've been long time Windows user, even make my living support Microsoft stuff but when it comes to a laptop I have NEVER seen a better solution the the Mac's.

Best thing to do is go to the store and play with it in the store. I will tell you this, don't approach it from an "all I'm gonna do is..." because once you see how versital and powerful they are you are going to want to make sure you have the right one. I started out with a MacBook and after using it for 6 months realized I shoulda bought a Pro model so I sold the MacBook and just upgraded to a MacBook Pro!

Can't say enough good things about them.

I also suggest Apple. If you do get one let us (the mac folks) know and we can help you with the setup. There are a couple things you can download to make life easier.

I just made my desktop pretty yesterday cause I'm a huge dork. Here is a pic.
