Arrow Home Security Camera System info - February 28, 2017, 08:22 PM

Anyone have home security cameras?

I know not much about this, but was told swann is a good brand, and to get 1080p mostly because the night vision is way way better.

Looks like I can survive on a 500GB hard drive 4 to 8 channels.

I found one for $199 but its gone now

tell me...what is good? what are some good names?
anyway to get what i want under $250?

Cameras? Why do you want to watch someone steal or break into your property?
Punji sticks, tripwires, and sentry guns.
Best security system ever.

I went all wireless with mine and got the blink system. It works well. Motion activated and records up to 60 seconds each time it's activated and stores up in the cloud without a charge. If I had to do it again though, I'd probably go with Aldo. Seems to be a little more robust.

I like the wired systems but they cost too much and honestly if there is a central unit that holds all the info, a thief can find and destroy it. Or worse yet, steal it lol.

I have an 8 camera system. Power over ethernet and depending on what you are trying to collect/capture 1080 may not be enough in some places.

I needed to collect license plates at night which is expensive - so that camera alone for NV and resolution required was like $300. But it is awesome. If anything happens in the area the police seem to want to review that camera.

PM me if you want more details, but my my system was like 4500 installed and uses a knock off brand of FLIR stuff. The brand name stuff is super expensive and made by the same suppliers (in most cases).

If you have a UPS on a standard alarm and cameras on UPS the odds of them finding the DVR before the police show up is slim, even if they cut the power to your home before entering; as long as it is not sitting in the entry.

I've installed several Q See NVR systems from Costco. If you do go the Zmodo route, I'd be interested in how they work.

You could do it a few different ways..

Buy a kit with wired cameras and DVR.

Buy a kit with Wireless cameras and wireless DVR.

Purchase wired cameras and build a computer or use a current computer as the DVR.

Purchase wireless cameras and build a computer/current computer.

Or do a combination of both.

I just put that Zmode up since it was cheap.
I was told to get Swann or Qsee systems.

Swann seems a bit on the higher side cost wise. This is for my vacation home so i can just check things out in general. I was looking at wired since i can string it easy with the rambler style house and rafters. I thought wifi system cost more.

Also I think it is easier to supply electric to the wired cameras vs. WiFi ones.

I was looking to get a 4 camera set and a reviewer said at least 1080p to see at night more so. I wont really need tag readability tho.

I plan on setting up wireless here in DC.

I used Logitech Alert in the past (still have it but haven't set it up at the new house) and have since setup a few Yi Smart home cams (chinese, storage on camera, accessible via internet) but I do not have them face anything I wouldn't want people to see/watch.

Heavily considering Ubiquiti's new cameras since my home network is 100% UBNT.

I think I do want to go wireless since im in the woods.
want 1080p since they seem to show the best pics at night.

I was at my vacation house, and had someone who did some work for me in the past but got a bad reputation show up. He had no idea I was down there and had text me 3 days b4 asking me stuff. That is one of the reason I wanted a cam system.
