How to Beat Speed Cameras - April 22, 2011, 09:11 AM

The Man Who Successfully Challenged Five Speeding Tickets Using Traffic Photo Timestamps

Read the whole story here -
Business owner casts reasonable doubt on accuracy of speed cameras - Washington Times

Quote:
Will Foreman has beaten the speed cameras.

Five times and counting before three different judges, the Prince George’s County business owner has used a computer and a calculation to cast reasonable doubt on the reliability of the soulless traffic enforcers.

After a judge threw out two of his tickets Wednesday, Mr. Foreman said he is confident he has exposed systemic inaccuracies in the systems that generate millions of dollars a year for town, city and county governments.

He wasn’t the only one to employ the defense Wednesday. Two other men were found not guilty of speeding offenses before a Hyattsville District judge during the same court session using the same technique.

"While Judge O’Brien let Mr. Foreman off the hook, he ruled against several other accused speeders who based their not-guilty pleas largely on gut feelings that the cameras were flawed, while reducing the fines for some who pleaded guilty."

so while the judge admits it was proven mathematically that the camera's are flawed, he decided to stick it to the others just because he can....

obviously their 'gut feelings' were proven to be right

The article doesn't say whether the same cameras were involved in those other cases. If so, that verdict should have been enough to toss out the other cases...

I need the calculation he was using!
I saw the flash-flash the other day and I'm suspecting I have some mail coming my way in the next 2 weeks.

it's pretty simple . estimate the distance your car moved between the 2 photos, in feet. you can use a known size, such as the diameter of your tire or length of your door. then, look up to time stamps and subtract them to figure out how much time elapsed between the 2 photos.

simplify , and that's your speed in feet per second . from there it's an easy conversion to miles per hour

true
but how does that say you're not speeding?
if the cameras are flawed as he says, then why are people like me who slow down and make sure im doing the speed limit or less NOT getting sent wrongful speeding tickets? the camera only gets flawed when a person is speeding?

He beat it because his guys let off the brakes before the pics were taken. As the camera company said, the pics aren't taken at the same time the sensor detects a speed infraction. This will soon be sorted out and the Judge will know better soon...

There's no explanation of what causes the camera to fault. Presumably this would have to be investigated.

It doesn't say anything. It introduces reasonable doubt. Even in simple traffic court, the burden of proof lies with the accuser to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were speeding.

So, you simply have to show inaccuracy. You don't have to show a design flaw, or even a PATTERN of inaccuracy.

Simply showing that your calculated speed was slower than what the camera says can be enough to get you off

But this was reproduced in over 40 citations against his company vehicles. Those are damn precise drivers

Very true, perhaps these are flawed and the sensor isn't adjusted correctly and people like 189 are getting false tickets and having to pay because they don't know the defense.
I wonder what type of cert these have to go through like officers have to do with their lasers or radar guns?

We need to get a citizen's refereundum on those friggin things. I wonder how much bribe money the camera company (only one company does them here) has to buy out all of Maryland's politicians.
