How long do you keep a bike? - February 16, 2007, 09:29 AM

The break in thread got me thinking.

How long do we keep our bikes? 3 years? 5 years? 7 years?

Do you base it on time or miles or babies or what?

I keep it till it dies or I want something else.

I haven't even owned mine a year yet, and I already want to own a different type of bike as well. I'm planning on keeping the cruiser for a long time.

I've got a bike and I ride it year round. Nuff said

Depends. I have kept the Sprint for 5 years. Everytime, which is several times a year, I consider getting rid of it I can't justify it. The new Sprints are not that much better, BMW's cost too much, VFR is bland. This year will bring the ZX-14 Concours. That may be interesting. I want to get another big traillie or dual sport and an off road play bike, just can't afford it now.

Lets see...I still owe $5600 on a used r6 I bought last June (actually bought the bike for $5200, but could only get a used bike loan for 6k) and according to the great folks of FFX County its assessed at $3200 (Not sure what the NADA value is)...I think im keeping this one for a while.

I keep mine till about 25-30k miles... which for me is about 3-4 years. I intended to pick up a new R1 & R6 (for my wife) this year, but backed out when she told me we had a baby on the way. So I kept my 04 R1 and sold the 02 R6 since she didn't see herself riding this year.

I keep all my bikes for as long as I continue to ride 'em.... When I find myself NOT riding a specific bike for any length of period - I usually wind up selling it...

It's why my FZ1 is going bye bye.. It's set up as the perfect sports tourer - tuned to perfection - with all kinds of farkles.. However in the last 2 years... It's only been on TWO trips.. It's not worth the I4 insurance... So it's on the block...

I keep them for about 20-30k miles. Then I usually get bored and move on to something else. I've been refreshing a lot in the last 4-5 years. I should prob stop that. I want to ride everything out there. Ima bike whore.

Depends on the bike. Some have lifelong potential, others are meant to be traded up every so often.

What a dumb question. Unless your trying to maximize the resale value of your garage.

It sounds more like your trying to be cool. Are you afraid of having an old bike or something?

Of course, I could be an ass.
