how many rings before you quit? - July 13, 2006, 09:49 AM

Ok yeah, im that bored.

In the hall outside my office door we have a phone that's only purpose is for outgoing calls to security to notify them we are opening a secured area.

So... Today the phone starts ringing. Now it does this on ocassion and most the time it is the building manager calling the number b/c she cant remember why they are getting billed for that phone number.

The ringer is rather loud and with my door closed the phone must have rang for 3 or 4 minutes. That probably equates to about 30 - 40 rings. The phone has no VM for it b/c of its purpose.

Now why would you let it ring that many times. I myself would give up after about 10 rings. Cause by then, no one is going to pick up. I went out and finally picked up this forever ringing phone and the person asked for someone who does not work here. I soo wanted to ask why they thought after 25 rings someone would pick up.

anyhoo... Just my annoyance this morn!

I would let it ring just out of curiousity to see how long it would take for someone to get off their lazy ass and pick it up.

What's the number I want to call it and let it ring.

Can you put the ringer down to mute?? Let the fuggers ring all they want then. Guess they decided they'd ring until it did annoy someone into picking it up..

I think I usually give up after 20-30 secs longest, usually less..

When calling someone I tend to zone out until they pick up. I figure if there's nobody at the other end it shouldn't matter how long it rings, right? And how often have you been just walking into a room as the phone was ringing. You don't know how long it's been ringing, but the person hangs up just as you get there?

After zoning for a while the ringing becomes hypnotic, almost relaxing... Unless you're at the other end of that ringing phone.

Anyone else ever make a call... zone out while it rings. Then when the person picks up you forget who you called? Then its like

"hello"?
"who is this"?
"who is this, you called me"?
"uh this is dave, i forget who I called"

Or how about you call one number thinking you are calling for someone else. When that person picks up, you ask for the person you thought you were calling. That person says no and then you realize who you actually called, you just pretend you dont know that person and hang up..

Did you get all that?
