I need a new cell phone... - June 18, 2009, 12:42 AM

Anyone care to educate me on my options...

Basically I broke my screen on my Verizon LG VX83xx phone and also lost the battery cover.

I need a new one, I'd kinda like an upgrade. Something a little fancier. Maybe with a QWERTY keyboard.

Budget is kind of low under $100 and I do not want to buy a new one which would extend my Verizon contract. I'm actually still on a family plan with my parents and sister. So adding a data plan (which I was told was needed for a blackberry) wouldn't work for me either.

I'm kinda waiting for the new IPhone, and for it to come down in price ect, I had a 3G for my old job and was spoiled by it. BUT I hated AT&Ts network and was very frustrated by dropped calls, I bitched to them ALL the time.

So what are my options for buying a used phone and what do I need to do to have it added to my service? What exactly does is an "unlocked" phone.

Is there ANY way possible to activate the 8gb IPhone 3G I still have to verizon?

I've been looking on Craigslist and their are a bunch, mostly Blackberrys.
Anyone have an old or unneeded phone? Any places I should look besides CL?

thanks in advance

If you can handle getting your own plan you can get the refurb 8GB 3G iphone from AT&T's online store for $79 bucks or new for $99, both with 2 year contract.

I actually still have the 3G IPhone, its just does not have service connected to it.

Looks like I'm stuck looking for a CDMA phone.

Have you checked out the Voyager? Love mine to death. Think unlocking is only for GSM phones not Verizons CDMA. $130 http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...227122904.html
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...217564353.html $120

You can get the covers, screen protectors and other goodies on ebay for it cheap to.

I'm hoping the Android G2 phone comes to Verizon, open-source, could be better than the Iphone.

Not sure if you want to switch carriers, but I have Sprint Motorola Q in Almost new condition. Had it for just a couple of weeks and then upgraded to a Samsung Ace.

$100 and its yours. We can meet at the Spot tonight, if you are interested.
