I was thinking.... - April 16, 2009, 09:21 PM

...if a beer costs $20 at a sporting event,concert,bar,etc....would people pay it?

How high could a pack of cigarettes go before a person wouldn't buy?

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

there have been times when I'd have bought a $20 beer...

You can ask the same question about gas.

$20 for a single 12 oz beer? Hmm... I would not buy it (and I'm turning 21 in less than 5 weeks).

The solution to this problem is already known and in action. It's name.... is...

PRE-GAME!

Yeah, I don';t think the bars would stay in business if that was the case. I would still go, but I would be bringing my own refreshments to spike my coke with. At a game, people may buy one but most will not. If they buy one they probably won't buy two.

When I lived in Kansas, a sixxer of a good microbrew was $5-8, and the variety, quality and selection were MUCH better than around here. Sure, the Anchor beers ran into 8-9, but I almost never spent that much. If I was on a budget, I could get six rolling rocks for under $5. Here in MD I'm paying over 10 for mediocre beers, and the selection is an absolute travesty. That's already affected how much beer I buy. A big reason is that I simply do not want to pay into Maryland's tax pot at all. I just don't buy that much beer anymore. Instead, I buy a giant bottle of Knob Creek when it's on sale, and it lasts me a while. Per drink it's much cheaper.

Every night of the week, 5$ all you can drink, domestic taps and rails.

Arlington, VA - 5$ gets you 3/4 of a pint of domestic Beer... Hmmm...

I have drank at home for years because I already thought the prices were too high.
In Frederick I have about 5 places I go to where beers are under $3 and I go all the time. $20 a beer no way!
