AutoZone Fires Worker Who Stopped Robbery | FOX News & Commentary: Todd Starnes

Never spending money there again. Not only did the dude stop a robbery, but he possibly saved some lives.

I sent them a nastygram about it too

Reminds me of this.
Michigan Walgreens Pharmacist Jeremy Hoven Fired After Shooting at Robbers - ABC News

In Benton Township, Michigan, two armed robbers wearing masks burst into a near-deserted Walgreens at 4:30 a.m. To pharmacist Jeremy Hoven, it was a prescription for trouble. So he filled it with hot lead. A video, newly released by Hoven's attorneys, shows how events unfolded.
Watch the Video Here

Drawing his own gun, Hoven fired at the attackers and drove them off, saving not just himself but two Walgreens co-workers as well as the pharmacy's valuable prescription drugs.
By way of saying thanks, Walgreens fired him.

I think a lot of places tell you not to stop robbers because they have insurance and dont wanna pay for one of their employees getting hurt by trying to stop the robber.

I agree the zero tolerance is bullshit. This dude however wanted to be hero. If you leave a dangerous situation you dont come back to it. Could have gotten in his car
and trailed the perp. Maybe the guy would have been caught. Does the perp even have a record of discharging the weapon or shooting anyone?

A blanket business place policy that does not consider circumstance, situation, and context - and is then applied in a manner that does not factor any of those elements is not only poor policy, but emblematic of lazy management and general counsel.

Autozone has a zero-tolerance policy on employees coming to the aid of one another and legally defending themselves in accordance with the law and as is every individuals right, and an open tolerance for criminals sticking guns to their employees heads and being held captive.

This does not seem like the sort of company I would like to work for nor purchase products from.

My car's battery was due for replacement next month. The nearest auto supply store is an Autozone ~2 miles away on Rhode Island Ave. Care to guess what retailer will not be getting my $120?

We need more people in this country willing to be a hero. Not less. Part of the problem is that evil is tolerated by the weak, victim-mentality pussies that inhabit this country

To be honest, this is most retailers policies. Lots of places don't even file reports because they don't want the "news" to get out.

Always been told "shut up and do as told" if a robbery or something occurs. Give them what they want. Had one boss tell me to "play dead" if something happened.
