If a plinker, what would you get? - June 28, 2011, 03:06 PM

I'm looking to get a .22 LR pistol for the range for obvious reasons (inexpensive ammo, great to practice with, the guns themselves are fairly inexpensive, cause guns are cool). I'm looking to spend no more than $330, preferably in the $300 range since I will likely buy online and then do the FFL transfer locally.

For 22s I'm not really crazy about the semi-auto looking ones (I feel those style handguns should be of higher caliber and I don't like to "front"), I was considering maybe a Ruger or something with that distinct .22 look. Looking for suggestions (pics, links, reviews, lowest prices welcome).

Again, this is only for cheap target/range shooting so no need to suggest .45s or 9s, or anything other than a .22. I won't be carrying or hunting with this guy so .22 caliber is what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Eventually I will end up getting a 22 rifle but for now let's keep it to handguns. Thank you.

Fitzy - I know ruger makes both. I was talking about the rifle pics people posted. I am on the throne and was being lazy. I didn't quote anyone so it was confusing, my b.

i really think that you would be better off with a 9mm or a .45 for self defense. I don't think a .22 can even penetrate skin...

You don't want to be caught at a Bmore gas station trying to sell your dirtbike when 15 dudes pop out trying to steal your bike and all you have is your .22. I think you should really look at maybe a glock 37. With that gun you could take on all 15 of those thiefs.

just saying

O ya and my vote is for the mark III.

You could get a Glock and get the different barrels.
