Job Description

Position Title: Director, Marketing Analysis
Direct Supervisor: Vice President, Marketing Operations
Position: Full-time permanent

Director, Marketing Analysis

The Director, Marketing Analysis is a newly created position open to someone who has a broad analytics background with a focus on channel analysis. SunRocket spends significant dollars in customer acquisition and our goal is to acquire the most customers for those dollars. We also want customers who will remain loyal, refer others, and purchase additional value added services.

The key responsibilities of the Director, Marketing Analysis will be as follows:

To provide the analysis for the CMO to make decisions around optimal allocation of marketing dollars across channels. He/she will also provide the analysis that will inform the decision around how much to spend on direct response campaigns versus spending on promotions. The performance of various promotions across channels needs to be better understood as well as the relationships between the channels.

SunRocket is continually looking at new distribution opportunities that need to be evaluated. The ideal candidate will have experience across multiple channels and be able to help provide assumptions around expected performance of new channels. Furthermore, this person will be able to evaluate which channels are underperforming relative to market benchmarks.

The marketing department continually drives new development projects. The candidate will take a lead role in evaluating the expected benefits of each project and establishing the priority of those projects.

This position initially will not include any direct reports so the person hired will perform the analysis and simplify it for presentation to senior management. The data used for the analysis will generally come from the reporting group within the marketing department.

The candidate will first establish a framework for channel analysis with his/her customers being the CMO and the channel managers. There will be significant financial and quantitative modeling involved. The candidate will be involved in the analysis of past channel performance and the projection of future performance. There will be modeling to explore and understand the sensitivity of spending changes on one channel to performance of other channels.

Beyond taking an inward-facing view, the analyst will also be responsible for staying on top of the activities of our competitors and factoring marketplace changes into his/her analysis. Price changes in the marketplace or increased spending by our competitors will impact SunRocket results.

Other areas of analysis include pricing analysis and profitability by rate plan. The candidate will also perform analysis that will drive our targeting strategies. Various systems provide data today and the candidate will have to assess the value of that data in terms of integrity and in terms of meaning.

The successful candidate will have:

• Eight years of analysis experience with increasing levels of complexity over time
• At least half of the person's experience must be in a subscription business, with recurring customer revenue, most likely in a consumer company
• Advanced analysis skills with marketing data. This includes data modeling, forecasting, development of assumptions, sensitivity analysis, and ability to develop benchmarks. The candidate also needs some level of experience in getting industry statistics and benchmarks.
• Telecom experience is a nice to have but not a need to have. A person with telecom experience is more likely to know some of the industry benchmarks

A Bachelor's degree is required and must be in an analytical field, such as finance, statistics, math, engineering, etc. An MBA is preferred, but not required.
