You see, my son is almost or exactly my height now at 13 years old. He's not my size but he is my height. Every morning we go through this ritual of checking each other height-wise. Well, this morning, after the ritual, I tell him to get ready for school and he says "Dude, in a minute".
I just wnat to say that I am not in Jail and he is very much alive and will be going to school this morning. He is a little sore in the arms right now and he is fully recovered from the "Rock-Bottom" he received. No bruises, no marks and the push-ups didn't hurt him either. I just needed to get this out of my system because he is a nice boy "That is getting bigger everyday!" Ok, back the the normally scheduled program.

Hey Warren I think using exercises such as Pushups and Situps are a great way to punish kids. I used to use that on my step children when they miss behaved and having them in the front leaning rest position gives them time to think about what they did and gives them exercise to boot. Much more effective than even grounding them or if they are younger putting them in the corner. I would also join them finding after the work out I would not be as angry with them either and I was getting exercise also.

That is a good idea. If its works in the military and at military school, why not bring it home. I will have to keep that in mind when the time comes for me.

I use pushups and sit ups to punish my son who is also thirteen.
it is great for them mentally and physically, and is alot better than the ass
whoopins i used to get. They are at that age where most of the time their
attitude writes that check that their ass cant cash and in this house I am the
banker. So if that check bounces this way he is penalized. which is usually
a chicken wing and him sreamin U DA MAN!!! for a minute...

my pops had me doing that crap as punishment(always talking that MARINES crap) love him for it thou'. my son does out of fun, so screw that as punishment(lol)

Next time, put some salt on the floor, make him kneel in it and have him hold a glass in each hand and DO NOT DROP IT!!! Oh, his knees will burn and his arms will burn from holding the glasses. He'll think about it then!!

Question. Wouldn't using sit-ups and push-ups as punishment make this person NOT want to do them when they're older? I mean, exercise IS punishment, but I definitely wouldn't want to do it if it was used as punishment for things I did as a child I don't think...

I'll have to agree with that... every time I go to the gym and do cardio I feel like I'm punishing myself.

Oh come on .. no pain .. no gain. Most kids don't get enough exercise as it is, so this gets them moving. When they get older they will appreciate it. Case in point, someone already posted that they loved their dad for it. I think it's a great idea. When they get older they can make their own decision on if they want to work out or not.


Oh, and my dad feels your pain. He is about 5'11 and I'm nearly 6'5 and I've been 6'+ since I was 15. Granted, my dad was never able to overpower me or anything, but I rarely questioned his authority out of respect for him.
