iMac and Dell Mini 9 help - August 5, 2009, 11:16 AM

Ok, so i had major issue last night trying to hackintosh my mini 9.

About at month ago, i followed these exact steps to setup my brothers mini 9 with NO problems.

http://dellefi.mechdrew.com/guide/method3.shtml

I used my xbox HD DVD external player and all went to plan. I borrowed Diggy's 10.5 OSX DVD.

Last night, following the same instructions, and using the same external DVD player and OSX DVD, i cant get it to work.

I boot the mini off the dell mini boot cd with no problem. Then i swap out to the OSX DVD, hit 9f and it wont load the OSX screen. It kinda spins for a min or two..sometimes it times out...or the apple white screen just goes to "you need to reboot your machine" message in 5 languages. Tried powering down the dvd player like it says.. tried about 25 times.. still wont goto the screen to start configuring the SSD.

So...i then tried to switch to the other instructions:
http://dellefi.mechdrew.com/guide/method4.shtml

Eg booting my iMac off the 10.5 OSX DVD and having the SSD hooked to my imac via usb. It sees the SSD with no problem. However when i try to boot my imac off the OSX DVD, it just continually reboots. I get the white screen chime, and it goes white...then black to reboot..chime...repeat...

Held down the option button to ensure it was booting off the DVD.. zippo.. so i had to boot back off the main HD.

This 'sound' like a DVD problem. I wiped it down, and i dont really see any scratches..

So im at a loss. Any other suggestions?

Well, I dont do mac stuff, but i updated the mini 9 to win-7 pretty easily using the usb method. I didn't have a flash drive big enough myself, so I used an 8 gig microSD off my phone with a usb adapter... worst case, you can buy a new one for like 10 bucks or so, much easier than finding an external dvd rom. I'd recommend going that way.
