mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, scumbags are gonna use it as an excuse when they get into a shootout with the cops and draw out legal proceedings.

On the other hand, it provides an avenue of protection legally if a cop or cops kick the wrong door down and a cop gets killed as a result.

Probably moot at that point, since said cop's buddies will be opening fire after that.

This law is meaningless without the banning of no-knock warrants.

Also, Joseph Hubbard is a fucking idiot with a badge. Lovely.

This legislation should be tied to a ban on no knock warrants.

No win situation. No individual should have the shield of law as blanket protection if they are not acting within the law. On the other hand anyone who shoots a cop from now on will claim the cop was acting illegally and they were in fear of their lives.

This issue even being up for debate is one of the few incidence's where I blame society in general. Both sides of the "thin blue line" have their bad apples who prey on others and to a large degree we don't deal with any of them as they should be dealt with in my opinion.

Yeah especially since I've never seen a one man entry team.

If you can blast them in the door way, might have a chance. That happened in Loudoun County and the resident did not get charged.

There was some sort of civil disturbance in someones front yard, and cops decided to just walk in to the house. Resident shot the intruding cop.

I hope it wasn't quite as you describe, otherwise it sounds like some guy died as a result of idiocy across the board.

No-knocks are useful maybe 0.00001% of the time. Yes, I am using hyperbole, but the fact is, some counties need to justify their tactical response team, or whatever the new cool, high-speed name is. Instead of kicking in doors like they do in Arnold movies, how about you just pick the guy up on his way to work (or on his way out to his shed to make meth...whatever his fancy). The idea is to limit the threat to you, others, and him as well. Surprise can be effected at times other than 2AM inside someone's house.

Wasn't Mitch Daniels on-board with Scott Walker for eliminating civil service unions? I guess if they can't kill them one way they'll go another.

It is a good law - the Indiana Supreme Court was fucking insane to over turn the the appeal. Hats off to the legislature to keep the courts in check. Lawyers and Justices are the hammer for tyranny nails, good thing they are there or else we would have complete anarchy - but they went a swing too far; happy to see elected officials correct their error.
