Question Info requested - Pickup truck rental w/hitch - February 8, 2010, 10:59 AM

Anybody know definitively where I might be able to rent a larger style pickup or SUV that has a Class 2/3 tow hitch? I know I could always drive over to the airport and check out their selections, but that could be quite time consuming. I don't want to call places because typically the reservation line isn't aware of hitch status, and if I get in touch with the location (not reservation line), English skills of the person on the other end usually lead to frustration.

The reason I'm asking for this is Sara and I would like to make a couple trips to VIR this coming season with our pop-up camper. It's GVW is about 2000-2500lbs.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

Thanks.

That you wouldn't mind renting out/letting me borrow to tow a heavy-ish camper to and from VIR?

Werd! Thanks Matt!

I'd like to still keep my options open in the event your vehicle is otherwise not available.

So, if anyone has info on rentals, I'd like to hear it.

Hertz, enterprise etc, they do NOT allow towing with any of their vehicles. Not sure about uhaul pickups, but they are expensive. I know Home depot won't allow you to tow with their vehicles either.

I have rented an SUV from Thrifty before, which had a tow hitch. I walked around their lot with a front desk person to find a vehicle with a hitch, and they knew I wanted to tow something with it. They had no issues and even held it for a couple days until I needed it.

Interesting, I'll have to keep that in mind, that was the one rental company I hadn't thought to try at the time.

Chris - My truck will be available when I'm on travel (50+%).

We can work out something, I don't really care to make any money off of it, but you're welcome to it. I've towed well over 6500 pounds with it with no issues. We can talk when I get back if you'd like.

FYI - it's stick shift.

SV650s for SALE!!!
- 2007 SV650 Racebike-Superbike KWS/Thermosman suspension/Swenz bodywork/All GSXR Parts
- 2009 SV650 Streetbike Race blue with white stripe/No wrecks/fully faired with M4 full system

Shoot me a PM or talk to Nate (Nudist) if you're interested in purchase.
