Insurance for self-employed - September 12, 2013, 01:07 PM

Random question:
I'm thinking about my leaving my full time job and giving IT a break for 6months to a year.

Once I leave my current company my insurance will get dropped by the end of the month.

Whoever is self-employed or has had insurance on their own who did you go through?

I need insurance for my wife and I. Something good.

I've tried google with no success, I want to hear from people who have had to get insurance on their own.

Thanks.

Can you get it through the wife's job? I just started my own consultancy and that was a huge help.

Kaiser Permanente was alright. Had everything under one roof and one emergency room visit while with them (at another hospital), no problems.

Cigna, Aetna, Blue Cross, they all offer health insurance for self employed individuals.

I've been there, be prepared to pay between $125-$200 for each person. It's expensive.

You can do COBRA for a while. It's expensive but buys you time.

Same here...

My brother is unemployed and he pays $200 to BCBS. Corba wanted $450/month.

So that should give you a rough for decent benefits.

Not to throw a bomb, but i just got an email from my company that health care options through obama care will be released in october. There is a possibility you could be covered for cheaper..

I havnt taken the time to read, so this is tongue in cheek.

Currently paying $660 a month right now at my full time 8-5 job. Cobra seems like I would be paying $12-1400 a month.

I have 2 stores that I opened, that are doing pretty well. It's getting harder to try and run and manage 2 stores and keep my 8-5 job. I have over 18+ certifications and have a high clearance so getting back into the field won't ever be an issue.

Just need a break from my 8-5 to get the 2nd store up and running on its own without having me there every day.
