ok, apparently the question is geared toward those of us who just ride to ride and have no liens/loans that require full coverage.

Are you asking about riding illegally? B/c your original questions seemed that you would have your bike in storage and not used. therefore post # 2 was a good answer.

however your reply is of the latter. First, you are required by law to have insurance. It varies on the coverage between DC, MD, and VA. I believe the min is insurance that covers you if you smash and hurt yourself and someone else.

The rest..if you are talking about hoping on your bike w/out a plate and insurance, then you will be getting a PM from me.

.net does not condone such behavior.

man you need a hobby

delete this thread if you gone off the deep end like that

you even talkin about?

and ur not actually "required by law" to have insurance pimpin - do some homework on the $500 uninsured motorist fee. = you can still drive/ride LEGALLY as long as the fee is paid annually at the time of registration

my question is plain and simple

lol @ .net behavior

I've always wondered that too, seems stupid to have to pay for a year's of insurance when you can't even really ride for 3-4 months out of the year. Is there a way to put your insurance on 'hold' or anything like that?

For those that do not ride year round, yes you can tell your insurance company that you are storing your bike and your rate will be reduced accordingly. However, if you take it out during one of the frequent warm spells we get and wreck without telling the insurance company that you are riding it, you will be out. So if you winterize and store, call them up.

wow you gonna jump on Derek for asking a question about insurance on a bike that isn't being ridden, when there's tons of videos and talk on this site of doing at least 3 times the speed limit, and group rides with bikes that aren't registered and a new thread every single day of somebody who got a reckless ticket trying to figure out how to lie their way out of it?

I don't think you unregister it, unless you are reporting it sold. What you do is simply stop re-registering it. I have one in my garage, but it is still insured cuz USAA will not allow me to add more bikes to my policy, but will allow me to substitute bikes. So I am keeping it on the policy awaiting it's replacement.
