iOS 8.1.1 sucks - November 21, 2014, 10:26 AM

Anyone else having issues with the new iOS update? My data no longer works. I have to turn on airplane mode, then turn data back on in order for it to work. If I close the screen and then come back to it after a few minutes I have to do it again.

What device? It is working fine on my iPhone 5s and it significantly helped the performance of my wife's old iPad 2 (compared to 8.0 and 8.1). It still isn't as fast as it was under 7.x, but it is getting closer.

Haven't updated the 5 yet, but I'll let you know what happened tonight.

iOS has really been missing the mark lately. Everytime there's an update, it introduced a bug that either breaks something or makes the device run slower.

lol these "updates" are getting ridiculous. almost as good as before is a current measure of improvement.

This is nothing new or unique to Apple. Try running Windows 8 on a 7 year old PC. It will run slower than it did under XP / Vista. The timeframes are just shorter with tablets because they are newer and the hardware improvements are coming faster. A new OS take advantage of new hardware, that is just how it is. Older hardware will always struggle a bit under a new OS, particularly when the tech is fairly new and tablet tech was new when the iPad 2 came out.

Which carrier?

My fiancee's sprint iPhone 5C data is barely working today... going in and out...

I will find out if she updated to 8.1.1

I updated my Verizon iPhone 5 without any issues.

I read Google engineers took a long hard look at Android's code - which they didn't develop, Android was purchased from another company - and focused on cleaning up, trimming , and optimization of the code.

I'm no engineer so I have no idea how this done, but my understanding is that Google did such a good job Lollipop on devices as early as Nexus 2/3. Very old hardware.

Sprint as well. It seems to have corrected itself. I updated last night and then went to bed without testing it. Then when I got off wifi when I left the house this morning it was all janky. Seems to be running great now.

So maybe it was on Sprints end and it was merely a coincidence that I updated.
