Japanese style hot spring in Chantilly !!! - August 7, 2010, 03:10 PM

Anyone interested in Japanese Style Hot Springs (onsen)..

I am stunned, there is one right here in Chantilly open 24 hours, 7 days!
Welcome to Spa World: Revitalize Life.

lol.. I've seen the place before and I thought it was just another hot tub sales place.. lol.. I'm going there this now to check it out.

Will report when I get back but it seems like there are both men and women only areas (bathing suit not allowed) as well as shared areas for both sexes (bathing suits required). Standup as well as Japanese (asian?) style washing areas.

checked out the website. cant turn off the music that plays in the background. that was annoying. then went to the gallery to see pictures of the place. and the setup was really annoying, so i closed the page.

that was all i needed to not go. but if they had both sexes area bathingsuit not an option, i would go check it out

I have a drink to celebrate the little things. Like Tuesdays - we only have one of those a week!

I guess I would have to ask.. "What were they expecting.."
I went today and it was a pretty typical Japanese/korean style onsen.
I've been in (much) worse and a few better in Japan.
But the experience was pretty typical.
I will say the men's tub area was better than almost any I had been to in Japan that were indoor only.

lol.. If what they were looking for is a water park.. It certainly ain't one of those. Basically boring, a way to relax quietly.

ya, the website is a pain. kinda hate it. But it shows the bathing area and a map..

Again, I went today and there was no mixed sex bathing area. The mixed area was only saunas and common areas. All bathing was in single sex only areas. This is also very typical to Japanese/korean onsen.

Was it clean? Not terribly expensive?

Yea that was me. My girl dragged me into it.

you go into the locker room. you can either change and go into the main co ed area, or go to the hot tub/pool room. There are no clothes allowed in that room. So it's a bunch of naked dudes showering and sitting in a hot tub together. I took one look and said forget that.

The main room is kinda like a hotel lobby. there's a bunch of rooms all around, they're all saunas. one is a sauna with a bunch of mini pebbles that you lay on, kinda like a chuckie cheese ball pit but 140 degrees.

there's one refrigerator room that's like 50. I liked that room the most

the rest are just regular saunas. like 6 different ones, all different temps. up to 168 degrees. big fucking deal.

you can eat some crappy asian food in the caffeteria.

there's also a fitness center upstairs, which I never went to.

It is not worth the $25. It goes up to $35 at the end of the month.

dont go.

hahahahaha...
but its a really BIG tub and there's a whole buncha little ones you can be in by yourself...

Welcome to Japan dude !
Sporting around naked is a national obsession.. They dress all conservative but they will nude it up at the drop of a hat. Whole families go together. Expect to have to get naked with your GF's father, brother or children within hours of meeting them.. lol.. Its wierd.. but utterly normal. Nudity simply is not taboo like here in the US.
In Japan all onsen used to be coed but we fixed that for them after WW2.. As Americans we just couldn't allow that kind of behavior in an occupied territory.. Just wasn't proper! There are a (very) few coed onsen still out in the countryside but most allow only Japanese inside, no westerners allowed..

Yeah, that's pretty much it.. And pretty much common to ALL onsen. The basic idea is to just hang out and relax. Hit the saunas, go back to the big tub, get a massage, read, sleep (about 1/3 of the folks there were sleeping on the floor), eat, talk, play on the computer..

You pretty much get it and love it, or hate it cause its the most boring place you've ever been.. Most Americans will hate it..

lol..
I guess its all about expectations.
I wanted a Japanese Onsen experience and that is *exactly* what I got.
Places almost exactly like this are literally all over Japan. People even list onsen in their hobbies just like fishing or motorcycles and often go 2 or even 3 times a week.

So anyway.. Like I said..
If you want to experience a Japanese onsen (even tho this one is actually Korean) this is the closest thing you are gonna get in the Eastern USA and no, it ain't a water park.

ok yea true I didn't like it cause i'm not used to that kinda thing. plus i really don't like saunas that much at all, it's like tortue for me.

it was pretty funny how everyone was laying around sleeping and playing on the comp. one of the sauna rooms we were in, as we were getting up to walk out, this old asian dude ripped a huge fart. me and my gf made it out just before we burst out laughing.

and yea the nudity is straight up weird for me. it was almost comical when i saw a bunch of wangs hangin out and guys in the hot tub. I opened the door and half the room just looked right at me. definitely made me uncomfortable.

lol.. ya, in the USA...Most americans, especially guys, will freak over this.. chances are that once you get out of high school, you will never be naked in a room full of people ever again. I know guys who have lived in Japan for over 10 years and will still never go to an onsen because they can't deal with being naked in front of the other guys..

I will say this tho.. How did we, as americans, get to the point where we automatically think "homo" when we see something like a single sex bath? Almost to the point of violence even.. Its really f*cked up.. Everywhere else in the world this is considered absolutely normal. But here, people, especially guys, just completely freak out over it.

I will note this.. There were VERY FEW americans there.. Probably 95% of the non-asians there were european and most of the americans were with asians..

yea it would take some getting used to. one of my chick friends was all excited by the idea of a bunch of naked men. I tried to tell her it's actually rather gross, a bunch of old dudes with big hairy bushes.

I was in the military for 8. And there were times where we had to get a shower in under 30 sec. So seeing male nudity is no biggie for me. Actually it doesnt bother me at all. Being around little kids might be a little getting used to but, I dont think of it sexually.

Only thing about Sauna World is that its sometimes used as a gay cruising spot. Again not a problem with me (do what makes you happy). Just what I heard.

ya, military or professional sports. In the US, that's about it..

(not getting on anything you said, just a comment)
There are a number of kids there.. But come on..
That's completely natural.
Its really only in the US (well, couple of other places maybe, but none that I would consider living in) that nudity is automatically linked to perversion.
Really kinda sick.

I can see that.. But if it was there, its not obvious. I would not be surprised to find out that almost all the American guys that were in the tub area were gay cruisers.. lol.. A couple looked a little suspicious. haha.. But when I was there, no one looked at me or did anything remotely suggestive to me or anyone I saw..
