Jesus... anyone else catch this dumb bullshit? - September 1, 2010, 04:49 PM

This article is so much fail... we're going to deny collectors the chance at these arms, and they'll probably end up rusting to nothing or being destroyed.

Fuck man... I'm starting to hate this country.

I'm ok with the ban. There's no way in hell you want some foreign government dumping an entire lot of almost 1 Million rifles on American shores! That's insane.

Shoe on the other foot - do you think any foreign government would ever allow the United States Gov't to introduce 1 Million firearms into their general population?

And what is the demand for M1 Carbines and Garands? They're an antique but fairly common. Not at all hard to find here.

Is the collector market really clammoring for 850,000 rifles to be dumped into the market further depressing the value? I would think not.

They're getting scarcer, especially in decent shape. And they wouldn't exactly be flooding the shores... the agreement was supposed to have been to add them to CMP's inventory

Which is slowly released over time.

Yes, i am aware of that. However, they WERE going to let em in, and let em go to CMP

so, this sudden reversal is irritating.

lol... sorry you have no idea what is already "dumped" here normally. We had millions of $90 chinese SKS's flood in during the early 90's Then millions of $60 soviet mosin nagants over the last few years. The US buys a LOT of millsurp firearms.

as far a value $400+ for the carbine, and 500+ for the garand with the flood. releasing to the CMP (civilian marksmanship program)is comon for all of the lend lease firearms.

Just to give you some perspective into a world that dosent exist inside the DC line, my last ammo shipment was 1600lbs. Depending on the circle you run in thats not even a drop in the bucket compared to some orders. The company I ordered from gave incentives after $40,000 worth of ammo was ordered.

I know the US buys a lot of millsurp stuff. We sell much more of it to other military's though.

Those cheapy SKS's and such ended up being the weapon of choice for gang driveby's in LA throughout the 90's and became the "choppas" in the South. Can't tell you the number of gangster rap songs written about them. Lesson learned.
We all know these are going to end up in American hands anyway through any number of 3rd parties or back channels. Korea > Mexico > US.

As for buying a near ton of ammo / >$40K of ammo, well, bullets aren't regulated until you start getting into AP/API/ and Raufoss type rounds.
Then eyebrows go up and lots of "hey whatchu doin'?" questions start getting fielded.

Without being nosy though - what on God's earth could one person need with 1,600lbs of ammo unless they're buying ammo to prepare for the next zombie invasion or you're on the range every weekend.

As to the original topic, if South Korea wanted to manufacture and sell m1carbines and garands , or dump 1,000,000 garand clones to a US importer for US sales they could. russia, romania, serbia, insert name here,do it all the time. The reason it was blocked in this case was that they were lend lease guns, that the US goverment has direct action over (i.e. they own them)

back off topic

The russian and Yugo SKS's replaced the Chinese ones. The romanian AK's replaced the russian ones. some other country's XXX wil replace them.

AP, API and APIT are not regulated for any non handgun caliber, in fact 50bmg APIT is cheaper than Ball last I checked.

As to why 1600 lbs of ammo, beltfeds gotta eat...

Bad call on administration's part if this story is accurate. Still trying to locate a source other than Fox. Every result on Google thus far is Fox, conservative blog, and more Fox. You'd think there would at least be a liberal site out there praising it.
