This just in from Cali. Can some one please explain WTF - October 26, 2006, 05:32 PM

Can somebody please explain to me, why I just watched a commercial, in the middle of the World Series, On Fox from Chevrolet, that was not only entirely in spanish, but also referred to the make and model of the vehicle in spanish?

Please.

Let me guess.
It was because we now need to market to people who don't speak English yet live in this country?
great. why don't we just change the wording on all of the traffic control devices to spanish, or better yet, change everything in the phone book to spanish.

I'm usually pretty easy going about this type of stuff, nut honestly, it's getting fucking really old.

Yeah yeah yeah, i know, some dumbass is going to point out that almost everyone in the country originated from imported stock. true, but there is a major difference.
Those people made the effort to not only learn the English language, but fully expected that others would as well.
While they might speak their native language in their neighborhoods and local stores, they did not expect that everything in the country be translated for them. In fact, most were likely to bring an English speaking relative with them if they thought that they might just possibly need some interpretation.

to me, it's exactly this opposite mentality of above, that we see all to often in immigrants today.
"It has to be like my old country. I'm not going to change. your country must change to me."
Well i have just one thing to say to that....

"If it's so great in your old country, why the fuck did you come here?"

I guess I'm seeing it differently than you did. Seems to me that it was Chevrolet running an ad to appeal to a certain demographic, not a "we must be a bilingual society" statement. I think it was smart marketing on Chevrolet's part.

dont get me started....

CNN ran an hour long special called "Immagrant Nation" last night following 2 people who think all illegals need to be taken care of (as in arrested and deported) and 2 illegals.

the one illegal got to Atlanta when he was a freshman or sophomorein highschool, went to school here as an illegal, got a full scholorship to an extremely prestigious school (left un-named) as an illegal. had his appendix removed for free because he has no insurance. his mother gets Kemo every week for her ovarian cancer for free.

all together CNN estimated that the family has recieved over $1.5 million in scholorships and health care and have not paid one dime in taxes.

WTF IS THAT!!!
