Keepin insurance on a car you don't own anymore? - November 5, 2006, 09:59 AM

I sold my 92 S10 a couple weeks ago and turned in the tags. But I've found out that my insurance (GEICO) will go up two hundred dollars if I take my S10 off of the plan. I want to keep my multiple car discount but I'm not sure if it'll cause me problems with GEICO or the MVA. Anyone know if I can keep the truck on my policy and get away with it (mabye for the next four years until I turn 25)?

Yup. They will catch onto it. Its also called insurance fraud. MVA keeps REAL good records on insurance. Especially when he goes to insure the car! Big red flag.

The DMV is retarded also with insurance. I've gotten a letter from them threatening to suspend my license over a totaled bike (no long in my name). And lately, over dropping insurance coverage on a vehicle with 2 policies I got the same bs letter.
They are quick to suspend your license, even if your still following the laws and doing what your supposed too. They are all bastards & screw you any way they can.

Yea, like Scorpion and Nate said, there's definite potential for trouble with the DMV/MVA. There's also that fact that even if things slipped by on that end, you could potentially have problems if the new driver gets into an accident and totals the truck.

WTF? It's cheaper for you to have multiple vehicles? In my experience, the discount is never more than the cost of adding another vehicle, so your overall cost still goes up when you add vehicles. To do otherwise wouldn't make sense at all for the insurance company I would think????

And for all...

ALWAYS REMEBER TO CHANGE YOU ADDRESS WITH THE MVA/DMV EVERY TIME YOU MOVE!!

If they cant get in contact with you/send a letter to your house for some reason or another, they are QUICK to suspend you license and your tags. Remember it falls on YOU! No ifs and or butts...You will get nailed at the most inconvenient time!

Those facks will defintely suspend your liscense and is insurance fraud. Not worth saving a couple hundred. I had insurance lapse by 48 hours once and my liscense was suspended for having a registered vehicle without insurance
or the uninsured bs fee. The cops say you should know if you're suspended and the status of your liscense at all times. However they suspend you on Monday then throw the letter in the mail which is your only notification and you are fucked Monday afternoon if you get pulled over. Bullshit! They should have to put notice on your door like a summons to appear and it would keep the few that goof off busy.
