Khan -v- Peterson Post Fight Interview - December 13, 2011, 04:08 PM

This was an excellent boxing match if you happened to catch.
Regardless of what the hell Max Kellerman was saying, Khan was warned continuously to stop pushing. Turn out he had over 50 pushes.

Peterman's Trainer, Barry Hunter, was like Mick in Rocky. They need to do a compilation of his ringside exchanges with Peterson between rounds. Especially the one where he slapped in the face and told him to put the match to the gas.

I was so upset I didn't go to the fight. I watched it on HBO though. I haven't watched the vid you posted yet, but I did think the points they took were bullshit. I give Peterson his props because he fought a really good fight, but if it wasn't for those points, he would have lost.

I have to say though Peterson kept on leaning on him. That's kind of gay too and should have been warned.

Yeah, I forgot to add to my last comment that Peterson even said that he wasn't too worried about the pushing. So if the actual boxer isn't too bothered by his actions, why did the ref take a point twice? And why did he not properly warn him that he was going to take a point?

Leaning on the opponent during a tie-up or when in close is a legal tactic so long as you are not bending the guy backwards on the ropes.
You do it to smother their inside punches and wear their stamina down.

However, a good boxer knows an easy way to punish an opponent who does it excessively; you relax your body a bit so your opponent is a bit off balance then quickly side step. It's akin to pulling out the chair in basketball with a defender who is aggressively boxing you out.
The opponents weight and momentum will throw them forward and then you slip in a vicious check hook to the side of their body or head as you step away.

Roy Jones Jr. was a master at doing this. You really didn't want to lean on him for too long because he would set you up.

However, I will say that the ref should have warned and then deducted at least 1-point from Peterson for constantly charging in crouched and with his head down like a bull. It left with Khan with no legally defensive / offensive move short of an checked uppercut that if he would have misstimed would have hit Peterson low and been a penalty.

I heard the ref tell Peterson on more than one occasion to keep his head up.

This is why Khan kept pushing his head down and leaning on his back.

Khan Peterson II may be off this weekend. Peterson popped positive.

The May 19th fight between IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and former IBF/WBA 140 pound champ Amir Khan is reportedly on the verge of being called off according to news from Thesun.co.uk. According to Dan Rafael, Peterson has tested positive for synthetic testosterone.

Peterson and Khan both previously agreed to be tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) to test for performance enhancing drugs for their May 19th fight. It sounds crazy that either of them would risk taking drugs when they’re being tested.
Peterson’s lawyer is working with pathologists and specialists to get to the bottom of the positive test result. On Tuesday, Peterson’s team will be reportedly submitting the results.

As of now, it’s still unknown if the Khan-Peterson will be canceled due to the positive test result, if does turn out to be a legitimate positive result.

Khan is still training for the fight and expecting it to take place.

Peterson agreed to the testing and actually wanted it to be done, so it’s hard to believe he would be using any kind of performance enhancing drugs. Hopefully this is just a mix-up with something giving a false positive for one of the banned drugs.

What an idiot. But then again, maybe he wouldn't have won the first one without all the hometown help and testosterone.

This will only play into Kahn's theories about how he was robbed in DC.

While I believe that Khan didn't fight as a true champion, and that Lamont showed plenty of heart this was a true home town cooking. Hometown venue, hometown ref, etc.

Still am looking forward to this fight!

The COOKING of that year was Paul Williams Vs Lara. It was so OD that they suspended the judges. It made me never want to watch boxing again.
Now i do, but use my special "websites" to watch all the glorious PPV's

Bring on the lawsuits.
Peterson is going to have to be stripped of his title.
The first Amir Khan fight may be overturned to a No Contest.
