Kid tries to fix his bike, ends up arrested! - September 29, 2011, 06:38 PM

Boy sneaks into Sears to use tools for bicycle maintenance | maintenance, mary, sears - Northwest Florida Daily News

How about make him pay for the tools he used, and then see if you a local shop would hook him up. I know I would have no problem with a kid with that kind of drive working for me at my shop. He just needs some direction.

C'mon! That jackass deserved it. He rolled up in the store WITH HIS BIKE, started opening the packages and using the tools to repair his bike IN THE STORE.

He was escorted out of the building with his bike. Warning (1)

He tried to sneak back in. An employee caught him and told him to leave. Warning (2)

He sneaked into the store again, opened up MORE TOOLS and was caught again. Warning (3) - you're out.

You can fix a bike but you can't fix stupid.

Yep you are proof positive of this!

My whole point was that the punishment is way too harsh. Its ridiculous, kid didnt steal the tools, break in anywhere. He NEEDED to fix his bike. How would this be any different then buying the tool, using it, then returning it.

Should the kid pay for the tools he opened? YES Should he be arrested, charged with theft, charged with eluding police, etc. NO

He was given 3 opportunities to pay for the tools. What don't you understand about this.

Better yet, what don't you understand about it being absolutely stupid to wheel your bike into a retail store, start ripping open packages, and effecting your own repairs in the store.

Don't get so up in arms. He was arrested on those charges but he wasn't convicted of them. They'll get knocked down to something petty and he'll get a small fine.

I mean the kid could have rolled up to just about any mechanic and asked for a hand and I'm 99% sure any mechanic would have happily helped out. Mechanics in my neighborhood would always help up with our bikes if we didn't have to proper tools.

Kinda on the fence.....sucks that he would actually get arrested for this....butttttt, he was warned more than once and kept coming back.

Hell, its a Sears, how about you go around to the side of the store where they fix cars and ask a mechanic to borrow a wrench. You might even luck out and get a nice guy who is willing to take ten minutes and do it for you.

What dont you understand about " I agree it was wrong but the punishment/charges dont fit the crime and context of the crime" If charges are going to get dropped down then why even bother with them in the first place?
