Which Laptop? - December 6, 2011, 06:44 PM

Looking to get a new laptop. Want a 15" PC. Mostly net & iTunes. Looking to keep it around $400.

This caught my eye: Office Supplies, Furniture, Technology at Office Depot

Anyone know of a better deal, on this one or another?

I was looking at this Asus for a cheap replacement.

Asus - Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 15.6" Display / 4GB Memory - Matte Brown Suit - K53E-BBR4

Think it was this one when it was on sale. Think it was 479.99.

I get discounts on Dells through one of my company perks... let me know if there is anything you see on their site.

If you just want a laptop to beat around with on the net and Itunes, ping OnelowCubn.
He almost always has some lightly used, fully loaded corporate machines (Dell Latitude Series) that range in the $220-250 range. With the money saved, you can up the RAM, HD, etc.

I've had a Dell laptop for 4+ years now and a Dell desktop for 4+ years before that. I've always had Dells at work.

Does Asus have a good rep?

If you can, research the model first. Overall they seem to be pretty good these days. I've had mine for 2 years without a single problem. It was more expensive than the ones you linked though. It has a graphics card and a first gen i7 and hasn't had any heat issues.

They love to break the DC charging port on the chassis, be uber careful how you handle it/ plug strain.

That and keep a disk copy of the OS, Toshiba brand hard drives love to mystically shit out. You will be a happy camper keeping a copy on hand!

They are really popular on base due to convenience/ price point. But if you can avoid any hurdles with those two issues you should be good.

Yes. Back in the day, not so much. Now their products are second to none. I own a ton of Asus shit now and try to buy their products whenever I can at work.

Just bought one of their high end monitors for my wife's photography business and plan on building a graphics machine for her using their new P9 mobos.

If you find a particular laptop you like, I suggest that you go to Newegg and look at the reviews. They are usually a good way to determine what is going on with a particular product.
