Arm school teachers.

Seems like a sensible defensive step.

lol...yeah right

I know my kids' teachers - I know I would not want most of them armed. Nor would they want to be. That being said, the teacher who summoned him to lower the weapon probably saved students' lives.

Stop treating the symptoms and address the problem ,or is that too obvious?

Same old tired discussion - same results. The shootings will continue as usual.

But hey, according to NRA statistics, we are still down on mass shootings this year...

(how messed up is it that this is now the norm and no longer surprising)

Anti-gun/anti-NRA rhetoric immediately fills news article's commentary despite the fact that 12 yr olds can't legally obtain or possess handguns.

Note that main stream media is hesitant to release more details of 12 yr old shooter, it may not suit their agenda. ('Protect the identity of a minor' does not apply when the minor you're 'protecting' is deceased.)

That being said if this was one of the kids parents gun. The parents should stand trial in his place.

Yeah I am old enough to know better. Thing is, I just don't care.

What exactly is the treatment for the problem? In medicine, we agree on the treatment and debate the diagnosis. In society, we agree there is a problem but can't agree on a treatment.

Being down depends on the stats you use. The NRA defines a mass shooting (I think the same as FBI) as at least 4 dead in a single place. Another group has recently changed that to (I think it was) 2 dead and 4 shot.. (It is a mass *shooting* after all and not mass "killing"). With the latter stat there have only been 10 DAYS this year where there *wasn't* a mass shooting.. talk about becoming the norm....

I think the NRA stat only shows that the shooters this year are worse shots than last year.. lol.. and while I have not checked the other stat to see if it was up or down since the prior year... dear GOD, is is possible to BE higher?

I believe that Parents have a responsibility to take reasonable measures to secure firearms based on the risk of unauthorized use.

You have to know your kid, you have to know the risks. I'm still going to wait the the facts to come out, if ever, before passing judgement here.

The only problem with that philosophy becomes obvious when it's your kid, husband, wife, father, mother, etc.

Sorry to be antagonistic, but even Secular Humanism's answer is more relevant.

It was a tongue in cheek response, Dutchie.
