Lego Porsche 911 GT3 RS - April 26, 2016, 11:46 AM

Instant Want: Lego Releases 2704-Piece Porsche 911 GT3 RS Kit – News – Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

So, I saw this article, and having played with Legos during my younger years, the article immediately caught my attention... till I saw the price!

For that price, one can buy an entry level RC car, building and wreck it (lol) multiple times. Thought the price of the Lego 911 GT3 RS kit was going to be somewhere around $50, maybe $75, but $299?!?! LOL

The way my brain functions is as follows:

1 - read article with excitement
2 - see price
3 - think of what I can do with $299
a) do a track day (and have a nice dinner afterwards)
b) buy a brembo RCS master cylinder for the bike
c) buy blow and hooker services LOL J/K

I go to the Lego store/amusement park in Schaumburg, IL once in a while when we have friends stay over with children. Most of the Legos in the store area are geared towards adult actually, and the price range is from $200 to a cool $800.

I've got a few of the lego technic motorcycles. If they made a motorcycle as over the top as this porsche I think I would probably get one. Of course, I grew up playing with legos and still have the ones from my childhood...

Same here, I too grew up playing with them, just have other toys to spend the money on. I guess if I had the money to burn, toys to look at are cool, but if I had to choose, I would spend the money on toys that I could ride on...

and no Turk, that's not your cue!

Dayum I got all excited!

Yeah they had the Star Wars full destroyer for $799. It was at least 6 feet long. Kind of like my schlong.

$300 for a Lego is a lot. That said, some of the kits are pretty awesome. The Falcon, Star Destroyer and Death Star come to mind. Apparently one of my pirate ship ones is worth some good change since it never got opened

When a Lego kit has too many specialized molded pieces it loses some of the Lego charm and ingenuity of fashioning something of tiny blocks. It's neither here nor there- not an accurate model, just a flimsy conglomeration of kit parts done in Lego-style. I'd much rather build a gorgeous 1:6 scale Tamiya motorcycle, for less than half that price. That model to me represents what a Porsche 911 would look like after the tow truck drags it back up onto the road after hitting a guardrail and landing in a ditch.

Lego has always been expensive. I know I had some $50 sets back in the mid-late 70s, big bucks for back then. Looking back I'm surprised my Mom was willing to spend so much.
