Living Trust vs. Will - August 10, 2010, 12:08 PM

I started this thread a while ago about wills:
Do you have a will?

As I was talking to my benefits provider at work about term life insurance, I was passed on contact information for someone who specializes in setting up wills and living trusts.

Would any of you be interested in meeting with him? He's based in Lansdowne. It would be a good idea for several of us to listen to the differences and ask questions in a group setting. After that, he can talk to us each individually.

Cool. That makes three of us.
Apparently, when you die and have a will, there is simply a piece of paper with your last wishes on it that gets dissected by lawyers and the courts, all of your money is fought over, and then pieced out after taxes.
With a living trust, it's kinda like you have a little corporation that owns all of your assets. You make rules and policies for your "corporation" so that when you die, everything is already laid out and "owned" by your trust.
I definitely want to learn more!

Ha!

PS: here's the way I see it... if I'm gonna kick the bucket, I want my friends to have my toys and some extra cash. That's the only reason for me to have life insurance. It's not like I have kids or a family depending on me!

You forget that Mike is winning the "he who has the most toys wins" battle.
You should bug him about his will!

I dont know I plan on giving Mike a run for his money.

I am with you Finch. When I kick it I want my friends to have a hell of a good time at my expense.
